Staff at Highfields enjoy a close relationship with parents and keeping parents up to date with what is happening in the school is a high priority. This is achieved in a number of ways, through informal chats at the beginning and end of each day, notes sent home regularly from the class teachers, our weekly school newsletter the ‘Highfields Herald’ and through this website.
Most notes are sent via email but a small number of notes will be sent home in a plastic ‘safe’ folder bearing your child’s name. If there are particular issues you would like to discuss with your child’s class teacher that requires a more formal discussion, please make an appointment so an appropriate time can be set aside.
Parents may also contact teachers directly via email regarding administrative and routine matters.
More formal and specific forms of communication including parent/teacher meetings and reporting are handled in the following manner:
Two Day Red and Blue
Home visits are conducted in the first weeks of Term 1 and parents are invited to a parent/teacher meeting in Term 3. This is a valuable time for teachers and parents to share information about gains and progress made across all developmental areas. In Term 4 parents receive a portfolio containing samples of their child’s work, photos and a personalised letter to the child written by their class teacher.
Three Day Red and Blue, and Five Day Purple
Parents are invited to a parent/teacher meeting in Term 2. As advised above, this is a valuable time for teachers and parents to share information about gains and progress made across all developmental areas. In Term 4 parents receive a portfolio containing samples of their child’s work, photos and a personalised letter to the child written by their class teacher.
Parent/teacher meetings are held in Term 1, shortly after the Icebreaker information evening, and in Term 3. In Term 2 a portfolio containing photographs and work samples across curriculum areas is sent home, along with a mid-year rerport. At the end of Term 4, a completed portfolio and end of year report is provided. These portfolios act as a wonderful record of your child’s year of learning as well as displaying the progress made. Interviews at any other time are at the request of parent or teacher and can occur at any time the need arises.
The Highfields Herald is a weekly newsletter distributed to every family on a Monday via email. It includes a calendar of important term dates and activities, informs parents about school events and matters of interest and contains work samples from classrooms displaying children’s skills and progress across the curriculum. It can be downloaded from the Highfields Herald page of the Parents Only section of the website.
In the interests of privacy and safety, web access to the Herald is restricted to current members of our community, to whom the appropriate username and password has been distributed. If any current member does not have their code or if it has been misplaced, they are available from the School Office. If you are unable to call into the office, the code will be sent to you via email.
